Former THE CROWN Members Announce Singer, Band Name - Aug. 1, 2008
Vocalist Andreas "Whiplasher Bernadotte" Bergh of the Swedish industrial goth metal band DEATHSTARS has joined the new band formed by four former members of the now-defunct Swedish death/thrash act THE CROWN. The new group, dubbed DOBERMANN, is currently recording a collection of tunes which are being described as "pure death/thrash metal."

"I'm totally hyped about finally writing songs with this act of 666% nitroglycerin," stated Bergh, who was previously in the Swedish death metal band SWORDMASTER. "DOBERMANN is just genius."

DOBERMANN is:

Magnus Olsfelt (THE CROWN) - Bass
Marko Tervonen (THE CROWN, ANGEL BLAKE) - Guitar
Marcus Sunesson (THE CROWN) - Lead Guitar
Janne Saarenpää (THE CROWN) - Drums
Andreas Bergh (DEATHSTARS, SWORDMASTER) – Vocals

Tervonen told BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "Not many people noticed when THE CROWN released the 'Possessed 13' album that Andreas actually wrote the lyrics to the song 'Deliverance'. Also 2002 when THE CROWN was without a singer Andreas was supposed to fill in for a U.S. tour (featuring KREATOR and DESTRUCTION) with us, but logistics got in the way so we cancelled the tour. So he's definitely not a stranger to us."

THE CROWN split up more than four years ago due to "too many tours gone bad due to not at all professional tour arrangements," according to a March 2004 statement released by Saarenpää. He added, "Coming home from tours with empty pockets, equipment falling apart and having a pile of bills on the doorstep is simply 'horns down'. Paying the bills with tour memories and floorscores is just not possible. We do love standing on stage but we don't know much about the business part, and that's a bad combination."

THE CROWN's video for the track "Face Of Destruction/Deep Hit Of Death" — which was filmed in Germany in August 2003 — can be viewed below. The song was the first single off the group's final CD, "Possessed 13", which was released in October 2003 through Metal Blade. The self-produced effort, which was recorded at Gothenurg's Studio Fredman during May-June 2003, was made available in a special limited-edition double-CD digipack, featuring a bonus CD that contained the band's 1993 "Forever Heaven Gone" and 1994 "Forget The Light" demos, a cover of BATHORY's "Burnin' Leather", and a demo version of "Rebel Angel" (off 2000's "Deathrace King" CD).

I'm confused - the singer of Deathstars? In a Death/Thrash band? Either he has been holding back for a long time or this is an odd choice. I can see this being brilliant as much as i can see it being a horrid idea. Guess we'll just have to wait.

Ok he was the singer of Deathstars but he also used to sing in Swordmaster, that played solid swedish black/death with some heavy metal influence in it.

Anyway, glad to see the The Crown riffmeisters back on track!

Don't know about the band name, but it's who's in the band that matters. And this is The Crown minus Johan. And that means it will kill.

The stupid bandname ruins everything.

"Coming home from tours with empty pockets, equipment falling apart and having a pile of bills on the doorstep is simply 'horns down'. Paying the bills with tour memories and floorscores is just not possible."

A good reminder that one shouldn't make money on metal, or music in general.

Metal should stay out of big business and keep burning churches. ;)
